Postcards were first used in Austria in 1869, in Great Britain in 1870, followed by America in 1872. The postcard was 3.5 X 4.5 inches but was increased to 3.5 by 5.5 inches in 1897 . Sending and collecting "picture postcards" was the "thing to do" in England and other parts of Europe. The Golden Age of postcard collection was between 1905 to WWI. Collectors use Condition or grading of the card, age, rarity, artistic quality, manufacturer, and probably most important of all

subject matter of interest evaluate and grow their collections.

Popularity of the collection and study of postcards (deltiology ) as a hobby has returned in recent years.
